How to: Clean and Maintain Fabric Sofas
AFTER A LONG DAY, YOUR SOFA IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO UNWIND.
HERE IS SOME TIPS TO HELP MAKE IT LOOK AS GOOD AS NEW:
Fabric sofas come in lots of shapes and materials, some having removable and washable cushions. If you have a cotton-blend or linen sofa, it can easily be cleaned with natural ingredients. When using a new cleaning solution, always remember to do a small fabric spot test in an unseen location to check for any discoloration prior to the cleaning. Before getting started, it is important check its tag for any cleaning instructions. Most have a tag that identifies it as:
W: OK to use water for cleaning.
S: Only use a solvent-based cleaner on fabric.
SW: Either water or a solvent cleaner is safe to use.
X: Only use a vacuum for cleaning.
Dusting and Cleaning
Groom your sofa weekly by using a dry hand towel or washcloth to brush the entire piece of furniture, breaking up any dried-on spots and removing any bits from its nooks and crannies. A stiff brush can also be used. Avoid using any colored towels or sponges, as the dye may alter the color of your couch.
Sprinkle the entire fabric sofa with plenty of baking soda to remove lurking smells and break up stains in the fabric. If your sofa is in need of a serious cleaning, allow the baking soda to sit on the couch for 20 minutes to an hour before vacuuming using a brush attachment. Alternatively, you can also mix a cup of white vinegar and a cup of cool water into a clean spray bottle and lightly spray the solution over your sofa.
To remove stains on fabric sofa, mix 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/8 cup of water and dip the washcloth in the cleaning solution, and gently dab and rub stains or simply use for wiping down the entire sofa.
With enough care and regular weekly cleaning, your sofa will stay stunning throughout the years. Now you know all the tips on maintaining the impeccable condition of your fabric sofa, find your own personal home style and select your perfect sofa to help complete your space.
