Granite, marble and quartz are appealing and long-lasting, crafted and polished to add beauty to your home. With these natural stones to choose from, here's some tips to help with your major decision making.
Granite is one of the most common and preferred countertop materials because it's solid, durable and stain resistant. Granite can withstand heat and avoids water marks while its durability makes granite hard to break, crack or scratch. Granite is available in a variety of colors, such as tan, grey, yellow-gold, brown, off-white, taupe, peach and blue-gray. However, because it's a natural stone, there are limited color options when compared to color-enhanced quartz varieties. Opt for granite if you want low-maintenance surfaces that don't fade or discolor over time and aren't sensitive to cleaning chemicals. Add occasional sealants to ensure its luster and longevity.
Quartz countertops have all of the same benefits of granite, except they aren't fully natural. Quartz are made from an estimated 93 percent crushed quartz and 7 percent resin, with some dyes for coloration. Quartz is a nonporous option for zero upkeep, even without top coat applications. The composition of quartz is relatively uniform, with less natural grains, flecks or veins as compared to granite or marble.
Marble are well-made and structurally sound but are less forgiving than granite or quartz. Marble is the most porous of the three and sensitive to strong chemical cleaners and stain by acidic liquids. A high-grade solvent-base sealant(Greyhammer is using) is necessary to protect the surface, often applied by manufacturers. Sealant only provides a longer reaction time for user to clean off any spills on the marble but does not make marble water proof. Select marble countertops if you want a design with the most unique, unpredictable veining and natural modeling. Marble tends to darken slightly over time.
Each material is available in a range of quality levels with marble the most expensive option typically. Regardless of which natural stones you choose, find your own personal home style and select your natural stone to help complete your space. Now it is time to personalize!
